Spice dusted corn chips

Tommy’s

📍 Darlinghurst

👀 Tommy’s has been opened for just over a year, it has been on my list for a few months from a friends recommendation and my bestie went the other weekend!! Located on Victoria St (turn right when you hit the coke sign), I scored some paid street parking right around the corner.

💥 Spot the cactus flower bed from the street, the restaurant design reminded me of Tommy Bahama’s store in America, meets Palm Springs meets Mexico. The stunning arch separating the front dining area to the bar made the restaurant so modern and stunning. Exposed brick throughout and an outdoor area with the heater on so it was warm on a freezing night.

💁🏼‍♀️ The staff here were exceptional! Hard working bartenders and down-to-earth owners who joined our media night, which is actually rare for owners believe it or not! David and Brett were so involved during the night was awesome, I asked what their fav menu items are: corn ribs, tuna ceviche, Black Angus skirt steak, broccoli and the churros!!

🍸 Tequila, Tequila and more Tequila. This bar take their drinks VERY seriously. Thought the night there was a constant flow of jalapeño margs, Plenty of tequila, mezcal and wine. You can do tequila or mezcal flights and also bottomless brunches. YUM. I was driving so I was on the lemon, lime bitters and it was just as carefully curated and pretty like a cocktail.

💥 Favourites of the night:

  • Guacamole $14 Arbol Chilli Oil | Spice Dusted Corn Chips | Ancient Seeds & Mixed Nuts - these spice dusted corn chips were something else!! I ate them by themselves haha, the guac was perfect authentic, reminded me of real Mexican guac. A MUST order.

  • Tuna Ceviche $28 Avocado Mousse | Ponzu Dressing | Guajillo Sour Cream - beautifully presented this ceviche wasn’t cubed, wasn’t big chunks but perfectly portion pieces together to make a fresh ceviche with speckles of ponzu and sour cream.

  • Tica Baja Fish Taco $8 Pickled Sweet Cabbage | Pico De Gallo | Smoked Jalapeño Aioli - the crunch on this battered fish was next level, even in a corn tortilla. Would have loved to see an option with flour tortillas but its not as authentic I get it.

  • Entraña – Northern Rivers Grass-Fed Black Angus Skirt Steak (300g) $45 Escalivada | Chimichurri | Burnt Lemon - this steak was perfectly cooked medium-rare, i’ve been having some amazing steak lately and this was up there!! The escalivada and burnt lemon really gave it that extra moisture and goodness. The chimichurri was the perfect accompaniment.

  • Churros $16 Homemade Churros | Dulce De Leche | Salted Caramel Ice Cream - I am always wary when churros are on a Mexican menu because I feel like its just chucked on there to have a dessert. These churros were fresh and homemade yessss that’s what we like to see and the variety in dipping sauces was very much appreciated.

I would love to try David’s recommendation of the broccoli, the oysters because the green apple vinaigrette sounds delicious, the prawns, the burrata, the quesadilla, the Cuatro Peces and the octopus.

✨ Big thanks to Mick from the Hungry Diner agency for the invite and to the owners Brett and David for the perfect sample of their menu paired with the extraordinary drinks. Such a great night with the crew and shoutout to our table the “SNAP AND SMASH” who made sure everyone got their snaps quickly then smashed the food.
