Did not want the flavours to leave my mouth

Midweek date night celebrating

Had no idea there were two rock pools in Sydney, i’m not sure how i didn’t know this but we showed up at the bar and grill, they gave us directions to Est 1989. So glad we booked this one instead. Its always been a bucket list item of mine. Neil Perry is one of my most favourite chefs of all time.

The restaurant was a hall style vibe with high ceilings, there was seating upstairs but i didn’t see anyone there, it was a weeknight though. Service was a real highlight of our night, our waiter was interested in us and why we were there on a Wednesday, we explained we were celebrating Bae’s promotion.

We did the four course menu for $150 each, which was enough food of us. Bae seemed the order the better dishes, i had food envy but he always shares. Not that my dishes weren’t incredible either, he just had the two standout dishes of the night:

  • Spanner crab scrambled eggs with crisp parmesan toast - I’m not a huge fan of eggs in a dinner but WAOW! This was incredible.

  • Blue Mountains Wagyu softly grilled, served with oxtail sauce, wasabi and fresh lime - this dish was the standout of the evening, best tasting wagyu i have ever had, the oxtail sauce is a new obsession of mine, bae gave me a few slice of his dish and i wish i ordered it, i did not want the flavour to leave my mouth. Exceptional! Melt in our mouths amazingness.

After our dessert our waiter brought out an amazing spun sugar nest tower to celebrate bae’s promotion, such a nice gesture. We started eating it then joked it was dangerous to eat because it was a bit sharp. Such a fun night of celebrations.
