Once upon a time chapter 1

Disney Degustation 2019

Nel Restaurant, Surry Hills

I was tagged in this so many times on Facebook I couldn’t not book it. We celebrated my sisters birthday here and it truly was the ultimate but twisted Disney experience.

As we walked in there was Disney music playing, which set the mood for the dinner. It started off with “A spoonful of Sugar” which was a test tube of pineapple chaser ‘medicine’ caramelised with coconut oil and a bite of Tuna tomburi with wheat caviar. This was such a fun starter to get us in the mood.

Next up there was “telling porky pies” which was Pinocchio themed truffle mushroom gruyere goujere.

It was time to immerse ourselves into Peter Pan with chicken croquettes with tarragon fairy dust and crocodile fat aioli. These were delicious and golden. The amount of detail thats goes into this is insane.

The waiter then approached our table and explained that Belle from Beauty and the Beast went to the market earlier that morning to get us some French cheddar scrolls. Also we barely noticed at some stage earlier they put a candle on our table which had melted down, this was Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast and was chicken fat and turmeric butter to dip our bread in!

Time to go under the sea, with little mermaid spanner crab, seaweed crisp on a macadamia seabed and tomato bubble bed.

Next up was “Bippity Boppity Boo” where a massive pumpkin was put on our table and inside was 2 little pumpkins with spiced pumpkin veloute, crispy sage, garlic Parmesan croutons and sour cream ravioli. Cinderella magic!

Kiss the Tramp was potato pasta with pork meatball, basil, tomato glaze with puffed dehydrated spaghetti.

Next up was the most morbid dish being “Bambi’s Mum” - Venison blackstrap with mushroom salsa, parsnip crisps, potato dumplings and beetroot sauce. A shotgun shell was sprinkled over Bambi’s mum with wasabi sesame seeds buckwheat.

For dessert, first up was Mad Hatters Tea Party including beetroot clotted cream charcoal scones with apricot jam. Ice cream sandwich with red velvet marscapone. Also earl grey with lemon.

Sante Sana squash banana - Caramelised banana sorbet with salted caramel gel and wattle seed ice cream. I’m not a massive fan of banana in desserts.

To end the dinner we chose a card from a pack of seven. Jenna picked happy and I picked bashful. We were then brought a petit four Jenna’s was chocolate mine was passion fruit. We were told not to share because they explode in your mouth and that was true!!! Awesome way to end the meal.
