Harry Potter filming locations in Oxford and London UK
Oxford University
Follow the footsteps of the world’s favourite wizard through Oxford’s most spectacular College. Many of the scenes in the Harry Potter feature films are shot in various locations of the College and as you walk around the cloisters and quadrangles it is easy to see why.
The Great Hall - my favourite Harry Potter location, it felt like i was inside the film and Professor Dumbledore was going to appear at any moment!
Courtyard - this reminded me more of the video games than the movies. (See below)
First flying lesson - the scene where Harry and friends had their first flying lesson.
(See below)
Staircase - As Harry and the new first years enter Hogwarts they are greeted by Professor McGonagall. This scene was shot on the 16th century staircase which leads up to the Great Hall. (See below)
London
Diagon Alley - Leadenhall Market was used as Diagon Alley and the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron in the first Harry Potter movie.
The Market Porter enjoys an attractive setting in a historic district of London – the Borough Market, so much so that the pub was transformed into the ‘Third Hand Book Emporium’ in the film 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’, and was situated next to 'The Leaky Cauldron’
Gringotts Bank - Scenes for Gringotts Wizarding Bank in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone were filmed in the grand interior of Australia House on the Strand. (See below)
Platform 9¾ - this one is a bit tricky to find, but very worth it. Awesome for photo opportunitys and such a central part of London, you dont need to go out of your way as you’ll probably pass King’s Cross Station. Platform 9¾ is situated in the western departures concourse of London King’s Cross railway station, close to platforms 9 and 10, below the walkway leading to the main building.
“Back in 2010, when i was in London. There were no Harry Potter tours, so i had to do all research and do a DIY tour. Now there is an all day tour with Universal that visits the movie sets. Which i would definitely do when i get back to London.”
