Dave and Betty from My Kitchen Rules pop up restaurant
When i heard my fav MKR contestants were having a pop up restaurant in Bankstown, i asked my cousin and fellow MKR partner wannabe Katelyn to join me for a night of fun, wine and amazing food.
Included in the $130pp price tag was;
Welcome drink on arrival - champs nice!
3 course dinner - + a lot of surprise dishes
Live cooking demostration - the kitchen was open so you could see Dave and Betty getting their hands dirty and cooking for us all night
Meet and Greet - Betty is an absolute sweetheart and came around to every single table to say hi. Dave was pretty much our waiter for the night, so nice to see
Take home goodie bag - including food, vouchers, lipstick and in an exclusive Anchor & Palms bag
Open bar with beer, wine, softdrinks and juices - sure was!
Live Music - not sure about this, didn’t need it though
Entertainment - the food was the entertainment, DJ played great music
Photo Booth - yasss
Giveaways - lucky door prize winners x 3!
There were mainly groups of friends and families there, only 3 tables in the middle for 2 people which we managed to score! The wine was flowing, the beats were going, it was such a fun atmosphere. Dave showed up first and then Betty and as i said they were absolutely fantastic hosts for the night. Making each and everyone feel special for supporting and attending.
Onto the food, the menu was super exciting, featuring most of the dishes from the show. As expected on a pop up, there was a bit of mixup and the waitstaff doubled up tables on the entree so i didn’t get the try my most anticipated dish of the night, those sugarcane prawns! I couldn’t be mad though, Dave came up and explained what happened and gave us one of our fav dishes of the night as a special dish Korean Fried Chicken yasss!
Starters
· Bo La Lot - the beef in this tasted like amazing quality, really nice
· Satay chicken special - this was the sauce they made in the challenge with Curtis Stone in MKR, i am surprised they didn’t win this challenge because that sauce is the best satay sauce i’ve ever tasted, chunky and so flavoursome
· Grandma’s spring rolls - this is Dave’s grandmas recipe which is so nice! They were packed with flavour and had a real earthy, homely taste to them. It’s extremely hard to pack flavour into spring rolls this size so i was totally impressed
· Nam Khao on betal leaf - super refreshing, like vietnamese sang choy bao
Entree
· Korean Fried Chicken - serving size was super generous with at least 5 pieces, that batter was so amazing, crispy and the chicken was perfectly cooked
Mains
· Bo Kho - Vietnamese beef stew;; carrot puree, pickled onion, pickled dutch carrots, watercress and vietnamese baguette - this was my favourite dish of the night, the beef tasted like it had been cooked for hours and hours, it was served on the bone and completely slid off the bone! The carrot puree was amazing and the pickling of the dutch carrots just complimented everything so well.
· Mok Pha - Fish in banana leaf;; tomato chilli salsa, green chilli sauce with steamed jasmine rice - would have loved to see this serve on the leaf, or so you can unpack it yourself. The fish was melt in your mouth amazing. The chilli was extra spicy with warning from Dave!
Dessert
· Kaffir lime pudding with lychee sorbet - this was really interesting flavours, more of a summer dessert, i loved how the lychee sorbet had actual lychees in it also
· Creme Brûlée - more of a winter dessert, this was simple yet the crowd pleaser for the night
The night absolutely flew by! I cannot wait to hopefully dine thanks to Dave and Betty again, perhaps in a permanent restaurant?? It was a fantastic night, well worth the money and the trip to the hood.
Thanks to Dave and Betty for letting me be paparazzi, being sweethearts and helping me with my side #hustle food blogging and most importantly cooking the most amazing food!
