Once Upon a Time Menu - chapter 2
First time at Nel as a family to celebrate Fathers Day. My dad absolutely loved Disney so this was the most perfect way to honour him.
As we walked in to Nel, our table wasn’t ready so we had our first course at the entrance with some complimentary champagne. I forgot to get a photo of it but it was presented in a book with ‘Eat Me’ cookies from Alice in Wonderland which was a Parmesan cookie, chive, finger lime and popping Candy! Delicious.
Fire on charcoal coming towards our table. Next was a Mulan inspired dish called “Dragon Fire” a black coated pork-chicken dumpling served with a lime dipping sauce.
Dumbo inspired Runaway to the circus was a deboned chicken wing on a bed of peanuts served in a circus style mug. My favourite part of the chicken and it was so crispy!
Next moment they brought over a giant pumpkin for You Shall Go To The Ball which was pumpkin brioche served with dukkah and oil, always love a bread dish.
Bambi + Thumper dish. Venison carpaccio served with mushroom, sorrel, fried forest leaves and rabbit croquette. The raw venison paired with the mushroom and the sorrel was absolute perfection. Way less morbid than the Bambi dish from last year even though this was raw.
Robin Hood up next Steal from the rich, give to the poor. Gold bresola jelly that melts into poor mans vegetables finished with a mushroom consommé. I live for a mushroom consommé
Next up was Finding Nemo’s Just Keeping Swimming, pan-fried dory served with fennel, seaweed and lemon foam. The fish dishes are always a favourite of mine.
The two part dish of the night was Donald á Paris – part 1 was a Confit duck leg with chilli in a fried ball. Part 2 was 7 day dry aged duck served with potato galette, carrot and duck broth. I love duck so I loved these two dishes.
Now for the most anticipated dish of the night Melted snowman ⛄️. Black garlic bread ice cream. Carrot cake. Vanilla yoghurt. I loved this, we had to take photos quick because it really felt like was melting at the table. It did not disappoint I loved this dessert. Not sure why but I love garlic in ice cream - who knew?
A beautiful encased red rose was placed on our table ready for Roses Are Red, Beasts Are Blue, which serves up an Opera Cake with lychee, raspberry and a side of smashed rose. This was my favourite dessert of the night. The theatrics of the nitrogen snow on top was so cool.
Finished with ‘Imagination’ blueberry cheese custard Tarts sprinkled with fairy dust from Tinkerbell. Served on last years tick tock Peter Pan - clever!!
I absolutely loved that no dish was the same as last year and I could experience this again for the very first time with my family.
