My birthday dinner with friends
Heard about this place from Urban List’s article “The Perfect Pair - Food and Booze pairings in Sydney”. Located in Darlinghurst is a quirky bar called the Owl House.
We had the whole downstairs bar area to ourselves, it was awkward when people walked in for a drink, the bartender/waiter had to ask them to leave. They should have just put a note on the door as it happened about 10 times throughout the night.
We had one bartender/waiter throughout the night, he was wonderful. Taking everyones drink orders and if someone didn’t want to do cocktail matching he would alter it to wine or mocktail instead. He explained the dish we were about to eat and personally handed it over the bar to each of us.
The food came out at a timely matter, the cocktails weren’t as sweet as i like and they were half cocktails.

Pambula Oysters: Mignonette granita Paired with: Spiced Pear Bellini: Pear purée, bitters, cardamon, sparkling wine - beautiful oysters and one of my favourite cocktails of the night
Scallops: Black pudding, carrot puree, walnut vinaigrette Paired with: 1930’s Cosmopolitan: Ketel 1 citroen vodka, Cointreau, lime, spiced cranberry purée - yummy cocktail
Prawns: Brick pastry, lardo, enoki mushrooms, yuzu, thyme mayonnaise Paired with: Mezcalin: Mezcal, plum jam, lime, tobacco syrup, rosemary salt rim
Rabbit Terrine: Pistachio, date, pear, toast Paired with: Kwik Fix: Bulleit bourbon, Choya, marmalade, bitters. - such a pretty dish
Pork 3 Ways Confit belly, braised cheek, seared fillet. cabbage, potato fondant, apple , crackling. Paired with: Cinnamon Fairy: Pampero rum, Grand Marnier, Absinth, apple purée, cinnamon. - this was my favourite dish of the night the highlight by far so beautiful
Honey & Dijon Mustard Ice Cream – Lemon myrtle, rainforest lime, puffed rice, rhubarb. Paired with: Coffee Cocktail: Brandy, Port, egg, sugar, nutmeg - these dessert was different with the lemon myrtle taste
